We’ll discuss here why packaging of corrugated products is good for shipping and protection, along with the best options for your needs.

Protection Benefits

Corrugated types of packaging are best for protection of items during the transit of them. Fluted layers get sandwiched in between the fiberboard, offering some cushioning that absorbs the shock during the transit process, which prevents damage from the products within. It’s also sturdy, and also will withstand loads which are heavy, reducing risk of collapsing and crushing of the items.

They’re versatile e

They dome in different shapes, sizes, even strengths, which makes it ideal for packaging a variety of different products. From smaller electronics to larger furniture, it all fits.

Corrugated packaging also prints on there with logos from the company, various branding, different graphics, and the like, thereby enhancing the marketing and providing some more opportunities.

Cost Effective

It’s more cost effective compared to different packaging materials. Being lightweight and requiring less transportation costs along with being durable, helps with it being useful for a lot of reasons and also reducing the wastes and costs.

Good for the environment

It is good for the environment since it’s made directly from more renewable and recyclable materials. This corrugated packaging reduces the need for plastics, since they do take far longer in order to decompose.  They’re better as well for recycling and repurposing anything you need.

It also fits on the other sustainability factor, which is compliance with the regulations. It’s compliant with different transit regulations, so you’ll be able to use it, without getting hit with penalties and other issues.

Choosing the correct Corrugated packaging

There are a lot of different means for you to get the corrugated packaging that you need. Here, we’ll give you a little bit about the things to consider.

First, is the flute profile, which is the strength and cushioning of this.  it comes in different letters, going from A to F. A is the thickest, and B is used for packaging of foodstuffs. C is the most common for furniture and heavy fragile products.  You may use F packaging for printing and retail packaging.

You also might want to consider the board type. You’ve got the single face board, consisting of liner sheets attached to corrugated layers. This is the best one for wrapping a product due to the extra cushioning.

There’s a single-walled board, which is the standard, consisting of one layer of corrugated medium placed between two different liner sheets. This is a board used for products and goods that consumers buy

The double walled box adds an extra layer to this, creating a strong type of packaging.

Finally you’ve got triple walled, which consists of three layers of a corrugated medium between four of the linger sheets. It’s used for heavy goods or industrialized parts.

There is also the board grade, which is based on the edge crush test and the Mullen board test.

The edge crush test or the ECT is a measurement of how much stacking a box will be able to handle before it collapses.

The higher this value is, the more that package can withstand being placed in an area with more items over each other.

Then there is the Mullen board test, which measures the resistance to puncturing from the internal parts.

The Main Three Levels of Packaging

Packaging is something that is all around, and when one thinks about it, you see packaging whenever you buy things. For instance, when you order stuff online, it comes in packaging. The same is said when you go to the store, and you purchase a bottle of something.

Packaging has different levels and functions, but the primary ones are tertiary, secondary, and primary. The main difference between each is the protective qualities of such.

Here, we’ll go over each of these, and how, with the right packaging, it’ll fit the needs you have.

Primary

Primary packaging is literally what houses the product, and it’s what you’re seeing right before you.

This is the packaging that the items that are usually delivered in when you’re at the store looking on the shelves. They’re shelf-ready made packaging.

For instance, a cereal box or a can of soda constitutes primary packaging. Blister packaging for pills is also a form of primary packaging.

There are so many great ways, but the end goal of this packaging is in essence, to tempt the customers to buy things.

Secondary

The secondary packaging is usually used for branding and displays. The level’s goal is to be appealing, but also to make it easier for a lot of retailers and those that stock the boxes to put them on the shelves.

You can also see rebranding of packaging elements via the secondary packaging.

For instance, think about branded boxes that contain cans of soda, stretch wrap, or any plastic covering for items such as toilet paper or paper towels.  They usually have branding on this, and usually house the packages inside in order to keep them nestled together.  This makes transit much easier.

There are a ton of different shipping options, and you can make it so that the secondary packaging seals the items, while also telling others of what’s inside.

Tertiary

The final one is the one that the customer usually doesn’t think about and see, however this is vital for shipping out products.

For instance, let’s say that you order a product from someone online. When it shows up on your doorstep, that’s a form of tertiary packaging. For many people, if they don’t get this, you might not be happy with the results of the packaging once the box is open.

For items that are fragile or are pharmaceutical in the way that they are, this type of packaging is the highest form of protection. Peanuts, die cut foam, dividers, and even bubble wrap all fall into this.

Remember with this form of packaging, it’s not necessarily the prettiest, but the end goal of it is really not to sell, but instead to get the item to the customer without it breaking.

Why go Minimal with Packaging

We’re starting to see minimalism, and minimal packaging taking the world by storm.

When you look at the different packaging trends that have been seen throughout the last few years, we’ve seen creativity, new orientations, and a push for technological advancements and materials.

Then of course, we need to look at simplicity and being minimal, as this is something that’s changed the way the product works, and offers some informative, unique looks to the packaging offered.

The common factor of this is that they are minimal and simple. Simple is the primary principal that’s being used to create an impactful, while also being a memorable sort of packaging design.

Food for instance is starting to get the minimalist treatment, especially in our pastas.  These days, it’s simple, and one food brand is taking it in a way where there are only two major elements that are worth looking at. The first are the eggs in the lower right part of this, and the pasta that you can see through the windows that are placed near the center, large enough to make the products really shine, speaking for themselves.

Then, let’s look at the soups. A lot of soups that are famous abroad are starting to take advantage of this.  the soup is right there in the center, showing off a beautiful soup that looks super tasty. The background of course uses an anonymous, gray undertone, and is something that really just showcases the soup. We don’t need anything else, and the packaging is right there, served to your own personal needs.

Superfoods, such as Primal Joy, are also taking advantage of this. This is a protein granola, which has a simple two-color packaging with a bold black font for the product name and the company. It’s simple, but still offers a bold nature to these illustrations that are stylized and offer a transparent type of window. There’s no sort of artifice or anything hiding the product. What you get from this is what you’re going to get.

There are some who are looking to offer a more radical and daring sort of minimalism.  There is a mint chocolate bar that consists of just having a bold and stylized leaf that sits in the center, and the sleeve tops and bottoms being a minty green color. This is super simple, but these elements are practically right there, looking at you.  The product itself sells by hinting that it doesn’t need the extra container and other additives. Even the typeface that’s used is very marginal, and it outlines the perimeter used in this wrapping, and it’s something that’s unique, and something that we really do love, especially through this example, and the unique tones of this.

Finally, let’s also look at other products too.  There are tea bags that are actually looking to go minimal and spend less time highlighting something extravagant. Gable bag boxes are the way to go with this, and the way that it’s sold is the colors. They’re bright, adding a pop art flare to them, and without any graphics, a very minimalistic logo, and even typography that doesn’t really try to be too extra, it’s one that shows both the essentialness of this, while also offering \a balance that’s stylistic.

It’s unique, and with a lot of different products, you can go minimal with the packaging without being super bland and boring. These are but a few of the many examples that are out there and offer a unique sort of spin on the packaging that’s out there providing you with a fun, unique means to really highlight the products that you offer.
