How much Can a Box Hold?

The volume of a box is pretty much what you want to look at when you’re trying to explore how much boxes can hold. They’re 3D spaces that hold gases, solids, or liquids in order to hold the contents within. The volume of this can be decided with different formulas to help you figure this out. This is usually done in cubic units to depict this, and with different math formulas out there to help with shapes, it can help to make even the most complex of shapes easy for you to understand.

Types of Volumes

There are various different types of volumes that you can figure out. This is good for the application of this in your boxes, and helps you get the right idea of what it is that you’ll be putting in there.

Cubes

Cubes also known as regular hexahedrons are 3-D shapes that come with six sides that are square. This is pretty much the typical box volume that you’re going for. This is six different sides and each of these meet at 4 vertices, with the cube containing the polyhedral, congruent, and other angles and faces. The edges on each of these are equal, so to find this volume, you want to simply measure out your lengths on each side, and then multiply that by three different instances, so it’s pretty simple.

Rectangular priss

These are a bit different, since they’re not always what people are going to use, but for longer items, this is definitely a type of shape that you’re going for. This contains six different rectangular faces, and everything is a right angle.  Unlike the previous one, this is also quite similar to a box, and is not two dimensional like rectangles. It’s got lengths, weight, and width for this too.

The volume of this is done through measuring all of this, and you basically multiply the length by the width by the height in order to get the results and the answers that you’re looking for.

Prisms

Prisms include two ends that are parallel, or different bases, which are similar in size along with shape.  A polygon that forms these bases are actually what is the name for these prisms. Prisms that have two triangles for example are known as triangular prisms, the same goes for rectangles.

The two sides of this are then connected by different rectangles, and of course, the side numbers are determined by the sides of the bases of the polygon. A prism for example has the same measure of the cross-section near the length of this, and you basically want to find the polygon that creates the base of this, and then, measure the height that’s perpendicular from a base to the next, and then, you multiply the two in order to create the volume. if you multiply the area of the base with the height, you then get the area of this.

Pyramids

Finally, we’ve got pyramids, which is created by making a base that’s a polygon, with a vertex or apex, and they basically come together to make sides that are triangular, and the number of these sides is made up by the sides of this near the base. Basically, they’re classified based on their base, which can be a polygon.  A pyramid that comes with a base that’s square is known as a square pyramid, and you basically find this area by taking 1/3 and then multiply it by the area of your base, and then the height. Use this to find the surface area of any box or item.

What not to do with your packaging

Packaging is something that a lot of people worry about, and with every single decision, color, image, you name it, you definitely want something that won’t look bad. One of the most overlooked portions of a plan for the business is packaging, and it’s something that influences the image of your brand. Even if it’s not something that you realize, the packaging does make a huge difference in many cases.

It’s something that actually makes or breaks brands, and it’s something that a lot of people look for. It can increase the interest customers have by at least 30% if you do have this. What is the stuff to avoid though? What should you be careful of when you’re looking to design packaging. Here are more ways a package could go super wrong than right, so keep that in mind.

First Mistake: your packaging is Impossible to Open up

Don’t make it super complicated. Keep it simple. while safety is a huge part of this, nobody wants to get a bunch of tools or knives to open up a bunch of packaging. You want to make sure that it’s safe for sure but also, don’t overcomplicate it to the point where people get wrap rage when they open it.

Missing Branding opportunities

If you have packaging that’s not descriptive or boring, this can be a huge miss for the brand in a lot of cases. Take time to ensure that you do build a name for the product within the branding space. You want to make sure that the packaging shines, and you don’t want to mess up the branding or the perception of the brand. Remember, the correct identity for the brand also implies the loyalty to the brand.

Missing the mission

What’s your mission. What do you bring to the forefront? The packaging that you use needs to show that. If you’re a product that’s pretty, you need to invest in packaging that looks good? If you’re a beef jerky provider, you want to make sure that it showcases the best features to get people excited. If you’re selling kids’ toys, make sure the packaging does catch the eye. Remember, don’t miss this part of this, since it can make you not stand out.

Ignoring the Audience

Finally, we have one of the most common mistakes, but should be a no-brainer for many people. This is something that we see all too often, and so many brands make this mistake. You should know the audience at hand that you’re going for.

If you’re a company that’s green and green-focused, you shouldn’t use packaging made of materials that aren’t eco-friendly. If you’re doing this, make sure the inks are eco-friendly too. If you’re looking to capitalize on this, make sure to let people know that the inks aren’t toxic, and that you use eco-friendly materials. This is something that a lot of people actually look for, so be mindful of this.

Do be faithful to the roots of this, and this is something to be mindful of.  Customers demand and are finnicky, and they will not hesitate to toss you out as a brand. Make sure that you have the proper branding experience for this.

Although this seems like some easy stuff, there are countless brands which mess this one up, and it’s something that you need to make sure that you don’t’ do. If you’re worried about your brand packaging, definitely talk to a professional to make sure it’s ideal, and also is something that is capturing the image you want to capture.

Do I need double Walled Boxes?

This is a question that a lot of people have, especially when they’re choosing the people packaging for their items. If you do the research, it helps you choose the right boxes, along with all the aspects of this. You may not even know the difference between double-walled and single-walled boxes, and this is something that you should know is right. Before choosing the type of box, you should think about the box type necessary, to help with money and time, since this is something that’s super important for packaging. Packaging is more than a design, but you have to look at durability, strength, the functionality of this, and a whole lot more to this too.

What are they?

They’re basically stronger and studier kinds of boxes compared to the single walled ones. Double walled boxes use fluted paper that’s pushed between two liner paper sheets. The outer and inner portions of this is made from kraft paper, recycled paper, and also test paper. The strength along with the durability do get determined by the paper type that’s used, along with the flute size. A major difference that’s there between this it the double walled ones use two layers that are fluted, rather than a singular layer.

When to Use?

This is good for those items that require ample protection or are heavier. Something that needs to be stacked in a safe manner, or stored in a warehouse for a bit, while it’s sold. Because it’s rigid, it’s better to store and stack without it crumpling. This is good for a lot of manufacturing areas and retailers since this does hold pretty well. This does offer good insulation along with the single-walled boxes against major changes in temperature, which does happen.

When to not use?

This is something that shouldn’t be used if you’re not going to store it for a long period of time, or if it’s not super heavy, or if it’s not sensitive to temperature changes. That’s because it does eat up costs, and it’s something that may be too much for the costs associated with this. In that case, just get some single walled boxes, since they do move and store lighter items a lot better.

If budget is a big issue, then you’ll also want to factor that in, since double walled boxes are usually something that are a much larger investment, and sometimes, they may even pay for itself if you’re looking to also mitigate costs associated with items that need to be replaced, and the single-walled ones are not living up to the standards that are needed.

Does this even matter?

Yes, it does. This is something that does play a huge part in the way the brand looks, and also will help you with ensuring that your brand gets the correct recognition necessary. This is just as important as ever, and a lot of packaging companies will definitely benefit from this. This is something that also does showcase the products in the correct manner, which is another part of this.

So what does it mean for you? It means you cannot skimp out on this step, even if you want to, which does make sense, especially if you’re planning to put anything in a box.  You may wonder if double-walled boxes are right for your brand’s needs. The answer is simple: if you know that your items will get crushed otherwise, or you know that your brand absolutely needs this, then by all means, put this in, and get the brand recognition that you need.

What are secondary and Primary custom Packaging?

For a lot of packaging, you need more layers than just one.  Sometimes, it requires a layer over this to protect it, usually a box that ships the product there.  This lets customers give this to a person without it being damaged. The cool thing is, that primary and secondary packaging doesn’t have to be boring, but there are some cool ways to make it work for your needs.

All about primary Packaging

This is the packaging that directly touches the product. If someone buys an item from the store, primary packaging protects the item directly, and it contains the important information that customers need. This usually is not a later that is removed until the customer is going to interact with the product directly.

Cereal boxes are a great example. It gives the customer all of the pertinent information about this product, and also any important practical and nutritional info to let the customer know how much they should have the flavor, and whatnot.  Usually, this houses the cereal directly and maintains freshness for the customer too.

Cartons are another one, and plastic wrapping is another, since this pretty easy to use, surrounds the item, and usually contains fun codes, nutrition facts, and even sell by or best by dates too. The goal of this packaging is to tell customers about the packaging and the brand quality, and also, what you should do to help properly preserve the freshness.

Secondary Packaging

What is secondary packaging then? This is the packaging over the direct packaging that protects the item when it’s transported. Usually, it’s used for display, or for logistical reasons because this usually is how products are properly protected.

Some examples include:

  • Those displays you see by the register
  • Packaging that makes it retail-ready
  • Packaging that makes it shelf-ready
  • Pallets
  • Case stackers
  • Floor bins
  • Endcap

The goal of this is to get the eye of the customer, or it’s used to protect the boxes and whatnot from getting smashed. Usually, cardboard is the main way to display this because it’s strong, and it catches the eye of the person who is looking at this, since you typically use cool graphics on this.

The uses for this are also some of the most practical out there too. You can put a bunch of products together to sell an item in bulk. Sodas that are sold in large packages are good, and usually, you can also get little packaging that gets the contents directly from point A to point B, as in the case of those cardboard holders for root beer bottles.

It’s also really good to help transport items, and it is something that’s cooled to use because for a few of these, you can literally get it, pull it out, and display it within the secondary packaging, so it works twofold.  Workers as well can also open some parts of this, maybe with designated perforations, that actually shows the products directly on display to use.

This keeps primary packaging and the product itself safe, but it also is a unique way to display the different items there.  Pallets and floor bins also work well to display everything that comes with this, and usually a lot of stores will utilize these floor displays because it allows them to display as many products as possible that they can without it all crowding or taking a bunch of space on the shelf.

With that said, primary and secondary packaging are both very important especially for determining the packaging needs that you might have for your company.

Types of Boxes to Choose From

There are tons of different ways to show off product packaging to boost the brand recognition for a company. Color plays a large part into this, but the right boxes also plays a large part into this. There are two major kinds of boxes which are white and brown kraft boxes, and you can also get custom boxes. Here, we’ll go over each one.

Brown kraft

Brown kraft has the benefits of being incredibly common and is a natural color. This is usually something that’s pretty simple, and a color for this does require you to print it directly onto the board as well.  They usually involve printing the color onto white cardboard that’s mottled. If you’d rather stick with the more standard, there are some differences between white and brown kraft.

This usually is something that is stylish, simple, and offers a minimalistic and familiar vibe to your customers. Brown kraft is popular as well because it’s considered sustainable. This is something that also can be recycled as well by pulverizing and blending the wood pulp, rolling this into a filament that’s brown, and making this eco-friendly. They’re also incredibly biodegradable and are able to be broken down quite quickly.

They’re customizable too, with companies offering a logo or design on this. This versatile kind of customization is something that business can use to choose the style, size, and the shape of boxes. Usually, with brown kraft, you get one that’s usually a black logo, and greens, deep blues, and purples work well too. If you decide to have a red logo, it needs to be a burnt red or muted brick color to show up best on this, and you don’t want a logo that’s orange or yellow.

White boxes

White is usually mottled white, so it’s not fully white, and this one is one that does have the darker undertones too of the brown coloring of the kraft paper. This offers a more striking, beautiful look due to how crisp and clean this is.

Usually, logos that are a lot brighter such as a pink, light green, bright red, yellow, and neon colors do well on this. Logos that have different colors or gradient colors work too, along with white logos that have a darker outline on them. Usually, people flock to the white colors to make them stand out a little bit more.

The best colors

Not all colors are equal, and you want to choose ones that fit the brand name. Choosing the colors will help the brand build more loyalty, since the correct color does complement the coloring with the story of the brand.

Black and white is good for those looking to go minimalist. Black means control, and white means clean in this case, offering top-tier, pristine looks to it. Red color is something that helps with making it stand out, and it’s something that’s good for a more attractive product.

Green is good if you want to showcase something as environmentally friendly or sound. Lots of people do like the going green aspect of this with their packaging. Brown is good if you’re looking to have eco-friendly shipping and more natural looks to this. That’s because they’re totally recyclable, so you can pretty much send the message that yes, your brand does care about the planet with this.

Blue is also good for those who work with professional demographics, and older people, since it is good because it does offer a serious, more trustworthy look to things as well. Get the right colors for your boxes to communicate the brand message today!
